Special Halloween Recycling Program – Candy/Granola Wrappers + Chip/Snack Bags
This spooky season, recycle your candy and granola wrappers, plus chip and snack bags, through a special ZWM TerraCycle collection! For the second year in a row, the Melrose Rotary Club gave Zero Waste Melrose a generous grant to fund the initiative.
You can find collection boxes decorated with Halloween-themed artwork in the lobby of the Melrose Family YMCA at 497 Main Street and on the porch of 41 Albion Street. At both locations, bins will also be available for donations of leftover candy for The Food Drive, a Melrose-based nonprofit focused on hunger relief and food rescue. Please remember—no food waste, paper, or cardboard!
ZWM would like to thank Cora, a student at Follow Your Art Community Studios and Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, for creating the beautiful artwork for the boxes!
You can recycle bags and wrappers that are:
Foil-lined or flexible plastic-based
Clean, empty, and dry
DROP OFF OPTIONS:
Thursday, October 29: Melrose Farmers’ Market (ZWM table): 2:30–6:30 pm
Thursday, October 29 – Monday, November 9:
Melrose Family YMCA, 497 Main Street
41 Albion Street (porch)
The empties will go to TerraCycle for a “magical” transformation into home goods and gifts made by the company—and raw materials sold to manufacturers to make decking, flooring tiles, playground surfaces, and more.
Let’s cast a spell of kindness and sustainability this Halloween.
